The Alcatraz Cruises ferries depart from Pier 33 in San Francisco. (See Map Below)
This area is close to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 in the City, so there's lots of parking within a few blocks of Pier 33. The problem: one lot might cost you $10 a day, another $6 an hour, which could mean $30 for parking for an extended visit to Alcatraz. Give yourself time to drive around the area to find a less extensive lot. Stockton St. and Kearney St. (see map below) each have several lots, but others are nearby as well.
Better yet, save even more money by using mass transit. Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 are served by extensive service from San Francisco Muni trains and buses.
If you are staying at a hotel in San Francisco, talk to the concierge about the best way to come to Pier 33. It may be within walking distance, or a short cab ride may be your most efficient route.
